The Google security team has enabled forward secrecy in its HTTPS services by default, so that captured messages can’t be decrypted retroactively. Even though Gmail went to a secure HTTPS connection by default last year, encrypted files could still be captured in their unreadable form and broken years later, when computers are much faster.
Other HTTPS Google services include Docs and Google+, as well as SSL Web search. All these services are now forward secret when HTTPS is turned on. Initially, only Chrome and Firefox will use forward secrecy by default with Google services, because Internet Explorer doesn’t support Google’s combination of the RC4 authentication and ECDHE key exchange mechanisms. “We hope to support IE in the future,” the security team says …

Google News now highlights +1′d articles from people in your Google+ circles in its Spotlight section. Friends’ faces and Google+ profiles are displayed next to the link, just like in Google’s social search results. Earlier this month, Google News added the same feature for authors, showing Google+ info under their headlines.
While today’s new social features are limited to the Spotlight section, it adds another way in which Google News can personalize content for logged-in users using their social data. Google is rolling out these kinds of Google+ features across all its Web properties …

The music streaming site Grooveshark is no stranger to the ire of the music industry. The service’s approach to hosting and streaming songs has resulted in a barrage of criticism from industry players, as well as a handful of lawsuits.
The latest lawsuit is actually the second one to be filed by Universal Music Group, the biggest of the major record companies. This time, UMG is suing over a claim that Grooveshark employees were required to bulk-upload music files to the service, and even got a monetary bonus for beating their upload quota. The lawsuit demands $150,000 per alleged infringement, which works out to about $17 billion, as Digital Music News points out …

Twitter is cutting deals with third-party providers of services that re-syndicate Tweets online, the company announced today, and the first one is Austin, Texas-based Mass Relevance. Mass Relevance has access to the full Twitter fire hose and offers its customers a filtering, curation and display technology to add Tweets about a TV show, political campaign or other event to their web pages.
The potential for syndicated Tweets is big, but hopefully Twitter won’t go after everyone else in the world who puts Tweets on other websites as a part of their business. The company doesn’t seem to be welcoming interested parties to license those rights either. We’ve asked Twitter for comment on the prospect of enforcement of the prohibition against unofficial resyndication of Tweets (who said this stuff was free as the wind?) but haven’t heard back from the company yet, but you can Buy Research Paper.

When Zynga announced Project Z at its “Unleashed” event earlier today in San Francisco, it became clear that the social gaming giant was ready to take some space away from its tightly knit relationship with Facebook.
Project Z is a social network designed for games that also serves as a place where people can talk about the games they’re playing. It is entirely powered by Facebook Connect, and users can start their games on Facebook and then bring them over to Project Z. Designed as a way to gain some independence from Facebook, Project Z will be hosted on Zynga’s own site. Despite this move away from Facebook, Zynga still relies on Facebook for most of its user base and revenue.

Pinoy-Canadian web developer AJ Batac put together a drop dead simple javascript bookmarklet today that makes it easy to share any webpage you’re visiting in Google Plus, along with a comment. The way it works is that your account publicly +1′s the page, then gives you the option to share it with whatever Circles you choose.
Batac calls it “not beautiful, but simple – and it should work.” Indeed it does, it works very well. It’s evidence too that powerful, fun and useful things can be done in simple ways. Thanks for making this AJ!

A week after version 2.5 of Google’s tweaks to the search rank algorithm – A.K.A. Panda – rolled out across the Web, new data from Searchmetrics show that the changes appear to be rolling back. Panda is designed to reduce the impact of content farms and other low-quality sites that game Google’s page ranking algorithm.
Out of the 30 domains that were hit hardest by last week’s changes, 10 of them have recovered to receive more traffic than before Panda 2.5, with another 10 restored to 80-90% of their pre-Panda 2.5 visibility. Only four sites did not recover their SEO visibility: bettermedicine.com, faqs.org, ohinternet.com and The Next Web.
