Sharing has now become very easy with the Bit torrent concept. Bit torrent is based on peer-to-peer sharing and it is the widely used concept for sharing data among large number of users. It is so popular that nearly 50% of the internet traffic is due to this protocol. When a user uses this concept, the heavy demand on one’s resources is relieved and thus one would be able to download the files with minimal resources! Thus even a small computer can be involved in transfer of large data. The constraints of low bandwidth are very effectively removed by it and hence downloading movies, eBooks etc is made easy! In this concept, a user has to first give his source of data and this person is called the seeder and the source is called the seed. If the seed is made available, others can make use of it. As more and more peers download the file, different pieces of the same data is distributed to the users and thus each user becomes a seed later on. Thus bit torrent protocol effectively removes the load on computer and the final result of the download is same as the direct download.
uTorrent is a freeware and is a bit torrent client. The client is very famous among the users for its stability and it got its naming convention from the word ‘micro’ which means ’smallest footprint’ of a program. This is a very effective program and the main aim of it is to minimize the use of resources while downloading. The functionality features is also quite good and it is quite comparable to those offered by Vuze. The program has very popular reviews and is widely known among the users for its features, stability and support for older hardware. A bittorrent needs a client in order to implement this concept. All the clients involved in the file sharing must be well capable of preparing and also accept and transmit the file in the network. The instance of this peer is also called the client. A torrent is the file that needs to be created in order to share files in the network. These torrent files would contain the files, metadata and a tracker which is essential for file distribution. In order to download a file via this torrent one will have to obtain the torrent and connect this to a tracker which would give the details to the computer about the peers from whom the data is to be downloaded. Even though the concept of download is same as the direct download, one would find lots of differences between both types of download. The request made in bittorrent is comparatively smaller and this method also ensure high availability, while downloads are sequential in case of classic downloads. Another famous peer to peer file sharing method is using the frostwire and the good things is that it is an open source software and thus one can download it for a complete free of cost!
